Fox targeted by FEC Dems in first-ever vote to punish debate sponsorship
Fox targeted by FEC Dems in first-ever vote to punish debate sponsorship: Finally making good on long-harbored anger at conservative media, Democrats on the Federal Election Commission voted in secret to punish Fox News' sponsorship of a Republican presidential debate, using an obscure law to charge the network with helping those on stage.
It is the first time in history that members of the FEC voted to punish a media outlet's debate sponsorship, and it follows several years of Democratic threats against conservative media and websites like the Drudge Report.
The punishment, however, was blocked by all three Republicans on the commission, resulting in a 3-3 tie vote and no action.
A Republican FEC commissioner leading that fight, Lee E. Goodman, revealed the vote to Secrets Wednesday and said the official report of the May 26 executive vote will be released Thursday.

American nightmare: Home ownership at 48-year low
American nightmare: Home ownership at 48-year low: Home ownership is at a 48-year low, driven in part by a shocking pattern of foreclosure that put 9.4 million out of their homes during the recent recession, according to a Harvard survey.
In its State of the Nation's Housing 2016, Harvard said that the U.S. homeownership rate has tumbled to its lowest level in nearly a half-century.
Figures from the St. Louis Fed showed a homeownership rate of 63.5 percent. The last time it was lower was in 1967.
The Harvard Joint Center on Housing Studies report put a focus on foreclosures.
A critical but often overlooked factor is the role of foreclosures in depleting the ranks of homeowners. Indeed, CoreLogic estimates that more than 9.4 million homes (the majority owner-occupied) were forfeited through foreclosures, short sales, and deeds-in-lieu of foreclosure from the start of the housing crash in 2007 through 2015, said the report.

Fishwrap: Confidence in newspapers, TV news hits bottom
Fishwrap: Confidence in newspapers, TV news hits bottom: Confidence in newspapers has hit an all time low in the latest Gallup survey, and TV news is also at a new low, the latest proof that Americans are losing faith in the media.
Gallup found that just 20 percent have confidence in newspapers, a 10-point drop in 10 years. TV news saw an identical 10-point drop, from 31 percent to 21 percent.
But it could be worse. Of all the institutions Gallup surveyed on, Congress is at the bottom, with just 9 percent having confidence in America's elected leaders, a finding that is clearly impacting the direction and tone of the 2016 elections.
