All told, governments killed more than 262 million people in the 20th century outside of wars, according to University of Hawaii political science professor R.J. Rummel. Just to give perspective on this incredible murder by government, if all these bodies were laid head to toe, with the average height being 5', then they would circle the earth ten times. Also, this democide murdered 6 times more people than died in combat in all the foreign and internal wars of the century. Finally, given popular estimates of the dead in a major nuclear war, this total democide is as though such a war did occur, but with its dead spread over a century

Number of Americans renouncing their citizenship near record highs: A total of 508 Americans renounced their citizenship in the second quarter of the year, according to information published by the Internal Revenue Service, putting the country on track to lose at least the second highest number of citizens on record.

That brings the total number of expatriates for the year to 1,666, according to data published on Friday, just below the 1,795 who renounced during the same period in 2015. Yet because the number of expatriates tends to increase toward the end of the year, 2016 could still set another record for the number of Americans it sends packing. A total of 4,279 left over the duration of 2015, which was the third consecutive year to set a new annual record.

Twitter accused of suppressing DNC Wikileaks story: Twitter lit up Friday night with allegations that it tried to suppress news that secret-leaking website Wikileaks exposed thousands of emails obtained from the servers of the Democratic National Committee.
Friday afternoon, users noted, #DNCLeaks was trending, with more than 250,000 tweets about it on the platform. By Friday evening, it vanished completely from the site's trending bar for at least 20 minutes. It returned as #DNCLeak after users erupted, though it was too late to quell their rage.

'Occupy the DNC' booking up campgrounds around Philly: Thousands of people who voted for Bernie Sanders in the Democratic presidential primary are expected to fill campgrounds around the party's July convention for a movement to Occupy the DNC.
We are getting phone calls constantly, said Cheryl Robinson, who owns a stake in 200 short-term campsites at a Four Seasons in Pilesgrove, N.J. A lot of times they don't want to let us know that they're Bernie supporters, she told the Associated Press. We ask if they're coming for Occupy the DNC, and then they kind of giggle and embarrassedly say, 'Yes, we are.'
Robinson explained that the campgrounds, which are located close to where the Democratic National Convention will be held in Philadelphia, have only been fully booked over holidays and when Pope Francis visited the city last year.

National debt jumps nearly $100 billion in one day to record high: The U.S. national debt is creeping up again, after holding steady for the last few months thanks to the annual flood of individual and corporate tax receipts.
Total government debt hit a record $19.38 trillion on Thursday, up nearly $98 billion from the day before. It's the first time it has ever exceeded $19.3 trillion.
The debt will soar higher still in the coming months, and is expected to approach $20 trillion by the time President Obama leaves office.
The total debt had been essentially flat since March, when it hit $19.2 trillion. Growth in the national debt often slows or plateaus in the spring and early summer, as tax receipts in April help balance out federal spending that's on a current pace to exceed receipts by $500 billion.
