DEATH BY GOVERNMENT: GENOCIDE AND MASS MURDER

DEATH BY GOVERNMENT: GENOCIDE AND MASS MURDER
All told, governments killed more than 262 million people in the 20th century outside of wars, according to University of Hawaii political science professor R.J. Rummel. Just to give perspective on this incredible murder by government, if all these bodies were laid head to toe, with the average height being 5', then they would circle the earth ten times. Also, this democide murdered 6 times more people than died in combat in all the foreign and internal wars of the century. Finally, given popular estimates of the dead in a major nuclear war, this total democide is as though such a war did occur, but with its dead spread over a century

That power is the corporate state. It does not answer to the public. It's only ethics are corporate ethics, which are driven by profit and the well being or safety of humans are only of interest if they affect profit. Read Chris Hedges or watch video interviews with him. He has been to these countries, won the Pulitzer Prize and knows what is going on. Noam Chomsky articulates the same things. It is intimately linked to the energy industry, the arms industry and the increasing wealth of the elite. Up until now, the border between it's influence and human rights has been in the third world. That border is shifting. This is not about religion, Judaism, Islam or religious extremism. It is about poverty and wealth, the the exploitation and theft that caused that poverty, and people who have nothing turning to religious extremism and 'terrorism' because they have been the victims of economic and political terrorism already. With $1.5 trillion

spent on ‘defence’ every year, half of that by the United States, advanced weaponry - the power for wealthy states to kill and maim people without any short term consequence - continues to proliferate at an escalating rate with no comment from our politicians or our media.  This is the invisible killer, a hidden industry that only enters out consciousness if we forcefully pull ourselves away from the distraction of mainstream news, entertainment and sport.  Lockheed Martin, one of the world’s largest weapon manufacturers, sold $47 billion worth of product in the 2013 fiscal year. With a profit that year of nearly $3 billion, it is more profitable than the 10 largest movie studios combined. Seen any media stories about that recently? Yet this giant of an industry that affects all the citizens of the world does not feature in our cultural or political space.  Any child has seen the Disney logo and knows their brand, while corporate entities of far greater consequence operate in.
