TSA Scanners: Radiation 10X Higer Than Expected

The Transportation Security Administration announced Friday that it would retest every full-body X-ray scanner that emits ionizing radiation — 247 machines at 38 airports — after maintenance records on some of the devices showed radiation levels 10 times higher than expected.

The TSA says that the records reflect math mistakes and that all the machines are safe. Indeed, even the highest readings listed on some of the records — the numbers that the TSA says were mistakes — appear to be many times less than what the agency says a person absorbs through one day of natural background radiation.

Even so, the TSA has ordered the new tests out of “an abundance of caution to reassure the public,” spokesman Nicholas Kimball says. The tests will be finished by the end of the month, and the results will be released “as they are completed,” the agency said on its website.

TSA officials have repeatedly assured the public and lawmakers that the machines have passed all inspections. The agency’s review of maintenance reports, launched Dec. 10, came only after USA TODAY and lawmakers called for the release of the records late last year.

I hope the TSA is understanding when the general public calls BS on this whole re-resting idea. They lied (Oh..gee…err…mis read?…naww…LIED) about the power output the first time around. They’ve VICIOUSLY defended how ‘harmless’ their porn scanners are and publicly rediculed and attacked people who have dared stand up and question the whole health side of this issue.
NOW….they are willing to check everything out and see if they are dangerous? Yeah, RIGHT. The readings could show near fatal levels and the TSA would still have far too much invested in a BAD POLICY at this point to admit it or change anything. They’ll ‘modify’ the test readings before any public glimpse at what they find.
The *ONLY* thing Aunt Janet could possibly do at this point is to commision an outside investigation on this whole issue with someone like Rand or Ron Paul heading the effort. Anything else is same ‘ol crap in a different press conference.

Hang on , please listen to a tech here .
Servicing and adjusting such a machine is a job involving computer driven procedures that are very well documented and verified . No tech can do an adjustment without repeated Tests .
Are you Telling me that a Tech by-passed the computerized Test and Result documentation and Left such a machine Out of Specs !!! R U Crazy …
No folks , we are dealing with a Deliberate effort here , the parameters of the radiation Adjustment are set in the Computer by Not the Technician …

If the public began to use their own meters to test the levels in these machines before passing through them, I would bet the smart money that most of these machines would be radiating a lot more than the TSA claims.
Videotaping the process and results for the internet would be crucial in getting the exposure out there.
Time to “See something, Say something”.
And let the lawsuits begin.

That would be a great campaign for Alex.
Get Alex down there with a quality, officially inspected and calibrated radiation measuring device and travel to multiple national locations and get readings on these machines. Videotape.
